Airtel Africa’s developer portal aims to broaden digital payments via APIs
With its upgraded Airtel Africa Developer Portal, Airtel Money, the mobile money platform, is driving greater efficiency for businesses to engage in seamless mobile money activity.
The portal integrates remote payments with Airtel Money wallets using several Open APIs and solutions to provide greater ease of access to Airtel Money services across multiple business sectors and regions across the Continent.
The portal allows Airtel Money to better respond to the growing popularity of digital money services and ecommerce platforms in Africa. This highly secure and seamless portal was designed specifically for merchants and e-commerce businesses looking to create, discover, and integrate into Airtel Money’s rapidly growing library of Open APIs. The APIs available on the portal enable merchants to both collect and disburse Airtel Money payments into Airtel Money wallets.
Over 400 businesses in Airtel Africa’s markets have actively begun using the service in its pilot phase. The portal is now used in a variety of business sectors, including e-commerce, pay-as-you-go solar, cross-border remittances, insurance, government services, healthcare, agricultural technology firms, crowdfunding, ride-hailing, savings, credit cooperatives, and others.
Businesses can gain access to the developer portal and Airtel’s API library by signing up here. After logging in to the portal, the company can begin exploring the API documentation and integrating by registering an application. Once the application has been registered, new products for a single or multiple countries can be added. Finally, once onboarding and integration are complete, they can go live.
Airtel Africa Digital Labs, the company’s bespoke engineering hub, created the Developer Portal. The hub, as Airtel Africa’s digital force, develops technology platforms and digital products to create cutting-edge solutions for Airtel Africa’s customers.
“The new Airtel Africa Developer Portal with our fintech Open APIs will enable a wide range of businesses to quickly and easily integrate with Airtel Money for digital payments,” said Vimal Kumar Ambat, CEO of Airtel Mobile Commerce BV.
The Portal has a wide range of applications and will benefit a variety of businesses, whether they need to collect payments from Airtel Money customers or disburse payments to beneficiaries. The Portal furthers Airtel Africa’s vision of bridging the digital divide, increasing financial inclusion, and assisting in the transformation of Airtel Africa customers’ lives.”
“The Airtel Africa Developer Portal is a testament to the work of the Digital Labs team,” said Neelesh Singh, Group Chief Information Officer at Airtel Africa.
