Why SA’s KeyTec believes it is a game changer in the vehicle telematics space
KeyTec, a South African startup, describes itself as a “one-stop-shop for video telematics and vehicle data,” offering smart solutions to businesses of all sizes.
KeyTec was founded just over a year ago after founder Michael Roberts saw a real need for maintaining and supporting assets and vehicles in the field, as well as the frustration of constantly reacting to an event, breakdown, or issue, and aims to “put data to work.”
“Our approach is based on the premise that all assets have enough data to predict and improve maintenance and services across all variables, including the human factor,” Roberts explained to Disrupt Africa.
KeyTec uses the most recent advancements in telematics data and data insights to transform a company’s asset and vehicle data into a value proposition that makes its business visible, optimized, and profitable.
“KeyTec collaborates with its clients to derive value from telemetry data by utilizing cutting-edge technology.” “With a proactive engagement approach, this approach shifts the mindset from a cost base and reactive model to a value add and profit line,” Roberts explained.
In a space where telemetry has previously been sold as a “track and trace” or for theft recovery, this is a game changer.
“Whereas traditional GPS services answered the questions “when?” and “where?”, our vision is to answer “what?” and “how?” “The real value is in the data and inferred information,” Roberts explained.
KeyTec is currently bootstrapped and seeking funding for an aggregated platform that will accommodate all OEM providers. Nonetheless, Roberts reports strong uptake, with businesses eager to improve their bottom lines and manage the human variable in the value chain. KeyTec is currently only active in the vehicle industry, but it plans to expand into retail and quick service retailers as well.
