OpenAI GPT-4o Gets Web Searching Capability and Begins Rolling Out to Some Users
The artificial intelligence (AI) model OpenAI GPT-4o was introduced on Monday and is currently being made available to select users. The company’s most recent flagship-grade AI model included a better comprehension of the language and context of the queries, along with notable enhancements to the chatbot’s speech and visual skills. As of right now, audio and video functionalities are not usable, and customers receive access to a limited AI model. However, users can make advantage of its text and web search features.
On Friday morning, Gadgets 360 obtained access to the GPT-4o model. This demonstrates that, despite not being mentioned during OpenAI’s Spring Update event, the AI model would be accessible in India.
It was only accessible to a small number of employees, so it’s possible that the business is implementing the AI model gradually and that it will take several weeks for everyone to have access to it. It is also quite restricting that access is restricted. Before our time restriction ran out, we were able to complete roughly ten questions before returning to GPT-3.5.
Users are now unable to take any action to gain access more quickly than others. To join, there is no waiting list. However, in order to receive this update, users must have an OpenAI account. Users who visit the website when GPT-4o becomes available will get a notice stating that their access is now restricted. If you have the same account on your Android or iOS app, you will get access to the model there as well. Do note, that reloading the page will make the message disappear.
To determine if you have GPT-4o or not, there is a simple test (in case you might have missed the notice). Upon accessing the ChatGPT website, a collapsible menu will appear in the upper left corner of the margin. In the event that you are a free user and do not have access to GPT-4o, ChatGPT 3.5 will be displayed, along with an option to join up for ChatGPT Plus, which provides access to GPT-4. If you are able to access the new AI model, though, the menu will just list ChatGPT and ChatGPT Plus instead of any numbers. Moreover, two intersecting elliptical circles—which resemble a simple atom icon—replace the lightning icon.
We experimented with the new AI model and observed modest gains in response time. Solving mathematical problems was one specific use case. It now displays the answers in a better way and doesn’t finish several steps at once as compared to GPT-3.5. Additionally, there is a noticeable decrease in the use of its “robotic” vocabulary and increased fluidity in creative invention. The most significant improvement is that this model can now search the internet for the most recent facts, relieving you of the concern over its knowledge cut-off. These days, citations for the websites from where material was sourced are included with every web search result.
