Google is Removing Nearly 900,000 Apps From the Play Store
Nearly 900,000 apps have been removed from the Google Play Store. The IT giant announced that it is removing Android apps that it considers outdated.
Staying in the Google Play Store requires your app to support the platform’s most recent features, and Google is removing apps that have been neglected.
Nearly 869,000 Android apps failed to match this requirement and will be withdrawn or hidden from the Google Play Store in the near future. According to a new report, these apps haven’t been updated since 2020, and Google will no longer offer them when you search for them in the Play Store. This means that new users will be unable to download the apps.
Developers of these apps have plenty of time to upgrade their apps, since Google has set a deadline of November 1, 2022 for them to do so. For Android 10, Google advises that apps must target API level 29. For Android 13, the current API goal is 33 at the moment.
Apple is also planning to eliminate almost 650,000 iOS apps that do not satisfy the same standards.
According to the data by analyst firm Pixalate, 68 percent of apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store have been upgraded since 2020 (3.1 million apps).
The report says that 84% of these apps had over 100 million downloads and had been updated in the past six months.
