Economic Importance of Smartphones and the Tecno Brand in Nigeria.
Indeed smart phones have clearly emphasized the importance of a mobile phone in being personal, mobile and as one of the most important tools we cannot afford not to have at anytime, what a device! managing our life, business and relationships
If we go by the prediction that over 69% percent of mobile phones in Africa will have internet access by 2014, and Nigeria leading the mobile users’ ecosystem in Africa with over 100 million connected lines, then it is certain we will have mobile phones changing the entire economy in few years to come. This change will be so obvious and in a great way even more than I could see in 2007 when I wrote the article on the importance of mobile phones to Nigerians, how our social life, businesses, communications and every aspect of our lives has been impacted by mobile phones.
Today, this impact is deepening with new sets of mobile entrepreneurs ( like the Application developers )emerging. Indeed speed, experience, convenience and fluidity with Mobile phones are major phenomena driving changes in Nigeria and ushering in the next level in the GSM revolution- the Mobile Innovation Era(MIE) powered by Smart phones.
Smart phones are the new personal computers in Nigeria, as they are embedded with chip sets, fast processing systems and then with features like Augmented Reality etc.
They have become a major contributor to the successes of businesses in Nigeria be it in financial inclusions, Health, Education, Entertainment, Agriculture.
Indeed smart phones have clearly emphasized the importance of a mobile phone in being personal, mobile and as one of the most important tools we cannot afford not to have at anytime, what a device! managing our lives, business and relationship!
Because of increased penetration of smart phones in Nigeria, Mobile Web has really developed, empowering Nigerians and driving social changes via the mobile social networks, and also increasing social entrepreneurship and Technopreneurship in Nigeria.
Yes, talking about Techpreneurship in Nigeria, smart phones are contributing in no small ways, importantly making the story of these young Nigerians driving the future with Technology heard.
Mobile Phones are now smart, enabling work effectiveness and efficiency and am enjoying its impact in my work, my smart phone helps me to receive and respond to a great number of emails per day, it connects me to the aesthetic virtual world of social networks where news and updates are shared per second. Media consumption has never being the same, it has increased exponentially in a continent which is fast driven by mobile revolutions such as the Mobile money, Mobile App development.
Having these smart phones affordable in Nigeria is important to make the Mobile Innovation Era I talk about a success. In a survey conducted recently by 2go- a leading mobile social network, it says that 80% of Nigerians plan to buy a phone in the next 12 months and that 94% of them said they want it to be a smart phone. If one goes by this, smart phones will be as ubiquitous in few years to come in Nigeria. But this can’t be realized if the phones cost so much, if their prizes are right, most Nigerians will have smart phones.
One phone maker- TECNO Telecom Limited with the brand name TECNO understands this future and are aggressively positioning and driving innovative smart phones into the Nigerian market like never before.
I think right now TECNO have the most affordable smart phones with android platforms, great designs and quality. Understanding that the first thing a buyer of phone in Nigeria considers is cost, the cost of a phone determines whether a Nigerian buys, with most people living under (is it) 1 dollar or 2 dollars a day, cost of stuffs is certainly a top priority here.
Smart phones which are affordable for Nigerians and with great quality is a distinguishing feature of the TECNO brand .
TECNO in its innovative way has come from the rear to become one of the fast- selling smart phones in Nigeria partnering with top phone sellers and distributors like Slot, online retailers like Jumia and konga, simply shows they have come to be generally accepted by many Nigerians. And also tech reviewers, social media users, bloggers all talking about TECNO smart phones.
Apart from the affordability of these TECNO brand of smart phones in the Nigerian market, they are of good quality with smart designs, fluidity, built on the sexy Android platforms and being dual-SIM is something most Nigerians admire (I have the P3 and then recently the TECNO PHANTOM A (F7)which I will like you to try out!).I understand that TECNO chip sets are engineered and powered by Qualcomms where quality is emphasized!. Mr Alex Dadson of Qualcomms said recently that they are partnering with TECNO to establish quality and solve a major problem of smart phones which is battery life.
With all of these, TECNO has proven that smart phones can actually be affordable to many Nigerians without compromising the quality and experience. Am impressed about this as the pace for mobile innovation in Nigeria is set!
