7 Nigerian Female Startup Founders Qualifies for the Aurora Tech Awards
Although while it is debatably still “a man’s world,” particularly in the tech industry, Nigerian women are undoubtedly doing their share and doing it well enough to attract attention from around the world.
These are the seven female business founders from Nigeria who have made the Aurora Tech Awards 2023 shortlist.
The AURORA Tech Awards are given annually to female entrepreneurs of IT firms whose initiatives have had the greatest positive effects on global progress.
In an effort to combat gender imbalance in IT, inDrive founded the Aurora Tech Awards in 2021 to promote female entrepreneurs who are utilizing technology to build their communities.
Several studies have revealed that investors are reluctant to invest in companies created by women. The inDrive Aurora Tech Awards are one of the select few organizations whose goals and objectives are to;
- To recognise the achievements of women in IT entrepreneurship
- To support them with a financial award
- To tear down gender stereotypes in IT.
The Aurora Tech Awards get entries from all over the world each year, and for the 2023 competition, 395 applications were received; however, only 22 nominees were chosen. Seven of the 22 ladies are from Nigeria.
The strength of the entries from Nigeria in particular attracted the judges of the Aurora prize, who were reportedly astonished by the caliber and range of the applications.
The 7 brilliant Nigerian female startup founders are:
- Folake Owodunni – Emergency Response Africa
- Princess Oti – Kaoshi Network
- Cynthia Asije – Craftmerce Inc.
