X to Leverage AI Agents to Expand Community Notes Program

According to reports, X (previously known as Twitter) intends to compose Community Notes on the platform using artificial intelligence (AI). According to the report, the business has requested that engineers create unique AI agents that can independently confirm the legitimacy of messages and offer unbiased commentary on them. Up until now, the social media platform’s fact-checking program relied on human users to create and vote on Community Notes. This will be a significant change. According to reports, X is choosing to use AI agents in order to expand the scope and velocity of fact-checking.
AI Agents Will Supposely Be Used by X for Community Notes
In an interview with Bloomberg, Keith Coleman, X’s Vice President of Product and the leader of the Community Notes program, stated that the company was thinking about using AI. According to reports, developers now have the opportunity to submit their own AI agents for evaluation. According to reports, the corporation will assess the AI agents that were submitted once they have completed a run of composing practice notes.
According to the story, the AI bots would be used to take notes on X’s public posts if the firm determines they are useful. Notably, Bloomberg emphasizes that a note will only be displayed if it is deemed useful by several individuals with varying perspectives, and that only human users will be reviewing published notes. According to reports, Coleman said later this month, AI-written Community Notes might be released.
According to reports, Coleman described the choice to allow humans to examine the posts and onboard AI agents to write notes as a “incredibly powerful” combo. According to the source, he also made a suggestion that the quantity of Community Notes, which currently stands at hundreds every day, might rise dramatically once AI is involved.
Notably, the site launched Birdwatch, a fact-checking platform, in 2021. A select group of users were chosen to contribute to the network in order to fact-check and authenticate public posts. Additionally, users would rate published notes as either helpful or unhelpful. After Elon Musk took over X in November 2022, the crowdsourcing initiative was renamed Community Notes. Since the beginning, the service has solely been run by volunteers who are human users.
