Uber unveils its motorbike section, UberMoto in Ibadan
Uber, the ride-hailing business, has announced the addition of an UberMoto motorbike component to its product offering in Nigeria.
The new service, which will launch in Ibadan, is a two-wheeled low-cost alternative and smart mobility option for city dwellers who want to navigate traffic more swiftly and efficiently.
Uber Country Manager, Tope Akinwumi, noted in a statement released on Monday that UberMoto is an expansion of the company’s service to offer mobility options in the city via trusted motorbikes (Okadas) with safety, dependability, and simplicity simply a touch away.
According to the firm, residents of Ibadan may now travel about the city for less money by requesting motorbikes (Okadas) through the Uber app.
Building on previous triumphs
In 2014, the company commenced operations in Lagos. It expanded its services to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, two years later. It also expanded its cab-hailing service to Benin City, Edo’s state capital, in 2019.
UberBOAT, a boat taxi service established in conjunction with Texas Connection Ferries, a Lagos-based ferry operator, and the Lagos State Waterways Authority, has also entered the Lagos waterways market (LASWA).
UberX, a product offering with a N100 minimum charge, launched in Ibadan in October 2021. UberX rides, according to the e-mobility business, are 78% less expensive than other options.
UberX has been serving customers in Nigeria for more than four years and employs over 20,000 drivers. As a result of this development into bike-hailing, more Nigerians will be economically empowered.
Uber’s recent foray into the okada market via UberMoto is noteworthy, and it will definitely build on the success of SafeBoda, a comparable bike-hailing service that began in the same city in 2020.
As we recover, we recognize the importance of continuing to develop solutions that meet the needs of consumers looking for smart mobility solutions, while also providing new income streams and earning opportunities for drivers,”
Tope Akinwumi, Uber’s Country Manager in Nigeria.
“It makes sense for us to provide a product that would help people get to their destinations faster.” “This is where we can put our technology to use, and we are excited to bring UberMoto to make this a reality,” said Uber’s country head.
UberMoto provides the same degree of door-to-door safety as any other Uber service, including injury protection, 24/7 support, and background checks and screenings of drivers.
Uber’s objective is to consistently create new products and services to further improve the app’s user and driver experiences.
“We are glad to be able to expand our options and give a broader and more cost-effective range of options for both riders and drivers throughout the city while seamlessly navigating traffic,” Akinwumi concludes.
Riders in Ibadan can request an UberMoto ride by opening the app, selecting UberMoto, and then selecting cash or card as their payment option.
