SweepSouth, a South African online home services startup, acquires FilKhedma
SweepSouth, a South African online home services platform, has acquired Egyptian startup FilKhedma, a home services marketplace operating in three cities, in order to expand into the North African country.
SweepSouth, which was founded in 2014, is an online platform that offers on-demand home cleaning services in various South African cities. The startup has raised significant funding, including from Naspers, and is currently expanding across the rest of Africa.
SweepSouth has acquired Egypt’s FilKhedma as part of this deal. FilKhedma is an online marketplace for home maintenance and improvement services such as plumbing, carpentry, electricity, air conditioning, painting, and appliances, founded in 2014 by Omar Ramadan.
Before receiving one of its background-checked technicians, users can book home services, receive an exact time slot, receive a quality guarantee, and approve a price quotation through the startup’s platform. On the other side of the marketplace, it hires technicians after thoroughly testing their technical and customer service abilities.
FilKhedma announced earlier this month that it had raised a bridge round of funding from Cairo Angels as it prepares to announce a “significant milestone,” which has now been revealed to be SweepSouth’s acquisition.
“We are thrilled to have FilKhedma as part of the SweepSouth family,” said Aisha Pandor, SweepSouth’s CEO and co-founder. “Not only do their services align with ours, but so do their values and culture.” FilKhedma, like us, is passionate about providing quality and trusted home services while also creating job opportunities for those in need.”
SweepSouth’s co-founder Alen Ribic stated that the company had demonstrated its technology and operational expertise in a number of Sub-Saharan African markets.
“With this acquisition, we will be able to expand our reach into Egypt, a massive market with millions of households.” “Collaborating with the FilKhedma team represents the next step in transforming SweepSouth into a global platform that will allow us to expand our services not only on the continent but also further abroad,” he said.
“We are thrilled with this incredible achievement and are looking forward to working with the SweepSouth team to realize our vision of empowering providers and delivering quality services in Africa and beyond,” Ramadan said.
“We already have well over 2 000 service providers on our platform, and we’re confident that with SweepSouth’s support, we’ll be able to sign up many more and expand into neighboring countries as well.”
