Safaricom is Developing Coding Lessons for Kenyan Kids
Safaricom customers can now purchase tokens for coding lessons through the mobile operator’s financial services platform, M-Pesa.
Customers will be able to activate the coding lessons on their children’s tablets, laptops, and desktop computers after making a successful purchase.
Safaricom will collaborate with Kodris to see this new business venture through to completion.
“We are excited to partner with Kodris to provide more than 30 million M-Pesa customers with access to learning solutions via the Kodris Mini App, which is now accessible via our M-Pesa Super App,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.
According to Business Daily, the agreement between Safaricom and Kodris comes after the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development approved the coding curriculum as the government moves to improve digital literacy among students.
Mugumo Munene, CEO of Kodris Africa, stated that the collaboration will promote digital literacy in Kenya.
“The skills that students will learn will be relevant today and tomorrow, allowing them to explore and unleash their creativity and innovativeness in a highly digitized and computerized world that provides opportunities for growth,” he said.
The syllabus will be made available in 49 other countries by the software company.
Coding, also known as computer programming, is a method of communicating with computers — it’s similar to writing a set of instructions to tell a computer what to do.
