Microsoft Unveils Copilot+ PCs Enhanced with Cocreate and Recall Features
At its Surface and AI event on Monday, Microsoft revealed Copilot+ PCs, a new generation of Windows PCs driven by artificial intelligence (AI). The manufacturer of Windows emphasized that these computers will have a unique chipset that can perform more than 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS), referring to them as “the fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever built.” Additionally, these PCs will integrate third-party AI-enabled software like Adobe and CapCut, in addition to offering new AI features like Recall and Cocreate.
As part of Microsoft’s AI PC vision, Copilot+ PCs are essentially PC operating systems that let original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) use the capabilities of the hardware that supports AI features.
There will be hardware requirements particular to this class of PCs. The Windows manufacturer said in an official post that Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung have joined together to introduce Copilot+ PCs beginning on June 18. Under this class, Microsoft will also launch new Surface devices.
What has changed with Copilot+ PCs, then? Microsoft said that these devices will receive a new Recall function driven by AI. With Recall, users may examine their usage history visually. Files, folders, and webpages will appear underneath in a preview box, and users will be able to navigate through their history chronologically by scrolling through a toggle bar. Copilot+ PCs organize information like we do, according to the business, based on connections and linkages particular to each of our distinct experiences.
Cocreate, a tool for those who create digital art, is another new feature found in Paint and Photos. When a user draws an image in Paint, the AI uses the user’s cues to create a visually comparable image. The AI-drawn artwork can be accessed by the user, who can edit it using text prompts.
Users can utilize AI to restyle and modify photographs in Photos. In addition, Microsoft is working with other products including LiquidText, Adobe, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve Studio, Cephable, and others to incorporate AI features. Additionally, Microsoft will provide these computer systems with access to Copilot, Live Captions, and other previously revealed AI functions.
Microsoft also unveiled a number of brand-new Copilot+ PCs that will be available to the general public shortly. These include the Asus Vivobook S 15, the HP OmniBook X AI PC and EliteBook Ultra G1q AI PC, Dell’s XPS 13, Inspiron 14 Plus, Inspiron 14, Latitude 7455, and Latitude 5455, and Acer’s Swift 14 AI. The Galaxy Book 4 Edge from Samsung, which goes on sale on June 18, will also be categorized as a Copilot+ PC.
Microsoft also unveiled the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, the company’s first-ever Copilot+ PCs, which are aimed at consumers. On June 18, they will also be released.
