Mercedes-Benz reveals the Vision EQXX concept car, a luxury electric vehicle
Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Vision EQXX, a solar-powered concept car that can travel more than 1,000 kilometers (648 miles) on a single charge.
After several weeks of teasing, Mercedes finally unveiled the vehicle (virtually) at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Because of its sporty intentions and sleek, futuristic design, the Vision EQXX is likely to serve as the basis for a production car that could end up competing with other luxury EVs like the Porsche Taycan, Audi E-Tron GT, and Tesla Roadster.
Mercedes, on the other hand, claims that the Vision EQXX’s superior range is “completely realistic,” and that many of its technological advances will be implemented in future production vehicles via the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture.
Mercedes claims that in order to achieve this level of efficiency, it did not simply cram an enormous battery under the vehicle’s floor.
Instead, it worked hard to maximize efficiency in the drivetrain, energy density, aerodynamics, and the vehicle’s lightweight design.
To be sure, the EQXX, like many other concept cars, gives us a glimpse of what’s to come from the design department.
The headlights and front bumper, according to Mercedes, give us a good idea of where the company’s front-end design language will go next.
The exterior’s aerodynamic efficiency contrasts sharply with the interior’s efficiency, which is the result of advances in materials science.
The Mercedes Vision EQXX is loaded with futuristic features that are either prohibitively expensive or prohibitively expensive for mass-market passenger cars.
