Kaspersky offers 6 tips for safe online dating.

Kaspersky has compiled a list of top tips for staying safe while dating online based on a new survey that revealed shocking data about the extent of digital abuse, with a quarter of respondents (23%) of 21,000 people worldwide reporting some form of online stalking from someone they were newly dating. A third (34%) of respondents felt that Googling/checking a person’s social media profiles as part of due diligence is acceptable, with 41% admitting to doing so when they first started dating someone.

The tips are:

  • Keep passwords to yourself and ensure they are complex and unique.
  • If it appears too good to be true, it probably is; if in question, double-check!
  • Take a time to review your digital privacy.
  • Don’t overshare on the Internet, as it has a long memory and can leave you vulnerable.
  • If you are transitioning from the digital to the actual world, develop a’safe plan’.
  • To protect yourself, consider investing in full cyber security or a VPN solution.
