Kenya Unveils its First Local Smartphone Assembling Plant in East Africa
Kenyans may now purchase reasonably priced cellphones that are locally made thanks to the opening of the cutting-edge East Africa Device Assembly Kenya Limited in Athi River.
The establishment of the device assembly facility was a collaborative effort between international device manufacturers and local mobile network operators.
The gadgets will retail for Sh7,499 and be accessible nationwide in Faiba shops, dealer stores, Safaricom shops, and the Masoko online platform.
The 4G-capable Neon 5″ “Smarta” and 6 1/2″ “Ultra” will be the flagship mobile phone devices at launch. Other devices, such as a locally made tablet, will expand the product line and be released in the coming months.
The government promised to build a local smartphone assembly facility in Kenya, and this factory was constructed with the ability to produce up to 3 million mobile phones a year.
“This assembly plant will help the government achieve its goal of improving the nation’s digital inclusion. Thanks to government measures that are in our favor and industry collaboration, we have been able to attain affordability,” EADAK Chairman Joshua Chepkwony remarked.
Furthermore, it is anticipated that the plant will support the development of local talent, create 300–500 direct jobs, and boost the economy of the nation.
