Meet Nigeria’s Jamit, the Social Network for African Podcasters
Jamit is a “social audio network” based in Nigeria that assists African podcasters with content creation and links them with listeners.
Jamit bills itself as “the African podcaster’s platform, made with love from Africa, for African podcast listeners and creators,” and was founded in 2018 by Stan Agbadugo and Ike Orizu. In 2019, the company launched its first podcast, then expanded into podcast production and distribution before launching a podcast platform in 2020.
It was dubbed “Africa’s first social audio network” last year, with one of its features, “shorts,” quickly becoming a popular way for users to record efficiently.
“Jamit short is created as an audio journal, where people can record their random ideas in a few minutes and share them with the world,” Agbadugo told Disrupt Africa.
“Our platform also has a variety of content.” On our platform, we have over 40,000 podcast episodes, including our own original podcasts. Podcasts that have earned international attention and partnerships are among them. We produce audio plays and will soon release audiobooks. We strive to communicate and tell varied tales through immersive audio experiences with all of our material.”
Jamit had identified a number of shortcomings in Africa’s fledgling podcasting business, according to Agbadugo.
“Creative storytelling is one of the gaps we discovered. We have a situation where stories were not being told honestly. “We created a framework that allows for creativity and excellent storytelling,” he explained.
Jamit has over 12,000 active users, indicating that people like it. The company has received some funding and is looking for more.
“We are certain that the uptake has been excellent and will continue to improve. We’re now functioning in Nigeria, with plans to extend to other African countries in the next years,” Agbadugo stated.
