WhatsApp reportedly adds privacy settings to desktop with the latest beta, but removes the Android Quick Edit Shortcut
WhatsApp has rolled out new beta updates for both desktop and Android users. The desktop beta introduces new Privacy Settings for WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp for Desktop users.
Privacy Settings have long been available on the WhatsApp app, and the feature has now been added to the desktop version as well.
The desktop privacy settings are reportedly being rolled out to a small group of beta testers. The latest update for Android users includes a bug fix for the quick media shortcut feature.
WhatsApp for desktop beta 2.2146.5 has been released, according to WABetaInfo. The ability to manage privacy settings directly within WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp for Desktop settings is said to have been added in this update.
Users will be able to manage their last seen, profile photo, and about pages directly from WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp for Desktop with this feature. Users can also toggle read receipts and select who they want to add to groups.
According to the feature tracker, the new privacy settings are only available to a limited number of beta testers. According to WABetaInfo, if those privacy settings are not available for your WhatsApp account, it means they will be added at a later date.
Furthermore, the tracker reports that WhatsApp for Android users have received a new beta update, bringing the version up to 2.21.24.9. This update includes a bug fix that effectively removes the quick edit shortcut introduced a week ago.
Some users reported that the shortcut had been added, but that it didn’t work and that they didn’t know why it had been added in the first place. WhatsApp is now removing that shortcut with the new WhatsApp beta for Android 2.21.24.9 update. The tracker claims that WhatsApp may reinstate this shortcut in the future, but there is no word on when that will be.
