AWIEF Opens 2026 Pitch n Grow Competition, Spotlights African Deep-Tech Ventures Led by Wom
The Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) has opened applications for Pitch n Grow 2026, its annual pitch competition supporting high-potential, women-led businesses across the continent. Founders have until July 20 to apply through the official portal.
Now a recurring fixture on AWIEF’s calendar, Pitch n Grow pairs mentorship and structured training with investor-facing exposure, positioning the competition as a growth pathway rather than a one-off pitch event. Finalists will present live at the AWIEF 2026 Conference in Cape Town on November 10 and 11.
A Theme Rooted in Local Context
Each edition carries a theme tied to AWIEF’s broader continental agenda, and 2026 is no exception. This year’s focus is deep technology, ventures built on substantial research and engineering rather than lighter-weight digital services.
“For 2026, we are shining a spotlight on Deep Technology and the unique advantage Africa already possesses – deep knowledge of local contexts, deep understanding of communities, and deep experience of challenges the rest of the world is yet to face,” AWIEF said in a statement announcing the call for applications.
The underlying premise is that founders who understand African problems first-hand are best placed to solve them. Applicants are expected to show their technology grows out of that context rather than simply importing solutions built elsewhere.
Who Can Apply
Eligibility spans three tracks reflecting different stages of maturity: pre-venture concepts with a working prototype, early-stage startups already generating revenue, and growth-stage companies with proven traction and regional expansion. Applicants must identify as a woman founder or co-founder, mixed-gender teams are allowed, but the presenter must be a woman on the founding team. Ventures must also be based or registered in an African country and organised around a genuine deep-technology core; AWIEF has indicated that simple consumer-facing websites will not qualify this year.
Participation is free, and AWIEF says travel and accommodation will be covered for selected finalists, alongside pitch coaching ahead of the Cape Town finals. Cash prizes are on offer for winners.
Part of a Wider Support Pipeline
Pitch n Grow does not stand alone within AWIEF’s programming. The organisation also runs a Growth Accelerator and the annual AWIEF Awards, both drawing on the same network of mentors, partners, and investors that feed the pitch competition — meaning visibility gained through Pitch n Grow can, in past editions, open doors to AWIEF’s other initiatives.
