With the most recent update, WhatsApp now allows users to save contacts as favorites in chats and calls for quick access.
The company said on Tuesday that WhatsApp is rolling out a new version that lets users mark certain contacts as favorites. With WhatsApp Chats and Calls, it allows users to keep the contacts they use most frequently at the top of the screen. It will also be accessible on the instant messaging service as a filter. This update comes a few weeks after WhatsApp unveiled Context Cards, which promised increased security when people were added to unidentified group chats.
Favorites in WhatsApp
WhatsApp announced the release of this functionality in a blog post. By placing frequently contacted chats under the favorites filter, it facilitates better chat organization for users. The filter has been added to the instant messaging platform next to the All, Unread, and Groups filters after the upgrade.

Furthermore, users now have the option to set favourites in the Calls tab too. To add contacts to favourites:
- Open WhatsApp and select the favourites filter in the Chats tab.
- Then, choose the contacts or groups you wish to save as favourites. Tap on the filter to only view the contacts you have selected.
- To set contacts as favourites in the WhatsApp Calls tab, simply select the ‘Add favourites’ option and choose the contacts.
- To manage contacts in favourites, head over to Settings > Favorites > Add to Favorites. Under this setting, you can manage or reorder contacts saved as favourites.
Users will be able to access this new function in the upcoming weeks, according to WhatsApp, which is launching today. Staff members at Gadgets 360 were unable to confirm its accessibility on WhatsApp for iOS and Android, though. It’s possible that the feature is being released gradually, arriving on devices one at a time.
Features Still Under Development
WhatsApp is reportedly investigating a number of new features in addition to the distribution of favorites, such as voice message transcription, a dedicated video note mode for the camera user interface (UI), and real-time translation for chats. The above mentioned features are currently in development and might only be accessible to Google Play Beta program participants who have registered as beta testers.
