When Nigerian Tech Journalists were honoured
Often times this group of professionals are less honoured, remunerated and rewarded in the society despite the fact that their role in the society is very key. The journalists play very vital part in the growth and development of every nation. We see in western world they are feared, revered, well respected and are also well to do.
It’s also funny that the people behind the news in most cases don’t make the news. The journalist is hardly in the news. I have personally observed because am involved, that the only time a journalist is being remembered by most organizations or corporate world around here is when they need you to publish their press releases or attend their events. There is little or no mutually beneficial relationship between the corporate world and the journalists in Nigeria, but that has to change!
These days social media and the blogosphere is changing the traditional life- style of a journo into the realm of Tech journalism without boundaries where one gains more recognition abroad more than locally. What an exciting times.
As a matter of fact, When you talk about the Technology Development that is being promoted in Nigeria over the years, the Nigeria Tech journalists are continuously contributing their quota in setting agenda for the future of tech in Nigeria. Their passion is easily seen in the method of their reporting showing how progressive minded most are.
At the weekend the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON)led by Chris Uwaje, the Oracle of IT industry, deemed it fit to reward no fewer than 18 tech journalists from leading media houses in Nigeria including our own TechTrends Nigeria Blog who over these years have distinguished themselves in promoting and supporting growth in the sector and Software industry in particular. For me this is an honour well deserved and I join in celebrating my friends and colleagues in this realm! Congratulations guys!
