WhatsApp is testing a desktop version of the Global Voice Message Player, as well as a new media visibility option and a redesigned caption menu
WhatsApp is reportedly testing a feature for its desktop app that allows it to continue playing voice notes even when users switch to another chat.
Last month, WhatsApp beta users on iOS were the first to notice the feature.
The disappearing messages feature of the instant messaging service has been spotted with a new functionality that states that when users enable disappearing messages, they will not be able to save media. Additionally, WhatsApp is said to have redesigned its add a caption menu when sharing media.
According to WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo, Meta’s instant messaging service is testing a feature that allows users to continue listening to a voice note even after switching to another chat.
In addition, at the bottom of the chat list, the app displays a media bar from which users can control the playback of the voice note. Along with the media bar, there is a progress bar that shows how much time is left on the voice note.
The new feature is available with WhatsApp beta for desktop 2.2204.5, but it is also said to be available to some users on WhatsApp version 2.2204.1. Last month, WhatsApp for iOS beta 22.1.72 was spotted as the global voice message player for some users.
According to another report, WABetaInfo discovered hidden references for a feature that prevents media from being displayed in the device gallery if the user has turned on disappearing messages in WhatsApp for Android beta 2.22.4.12.
According to the report, when this feature is widely available, users will be unable to turn on Media Visibility for privacy reasons. This, however, does not imply that WhatsApp will notify or prevent users from taking screenshots in chats with disappearing messages enabled.
According to another report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a redesigned caption menu while sending media. Furthermore, the report states that users will be able to add recipients while sending a media file and uploading it as a status update. This feature was first discovered last year. The newly redesigned caption menu is currently in development and may take some time to roll out.
