VC4A Unveils 14 Women Founders Eligible for the 2022 VC4A Venture Showcase Africa
14 founders have been chosen for the 2022 class of the flagship Venture Showcase program for women-led enterprises by VC4A, The Africa platform for startup investment.
Each firm in the portfolio is aiming to raise $250K to $10M in Pre-Seed, Seed, and Series A funding.
Speaking about the significance of highlighting these businesses, Ben White, co-founder and CEO of VC4A, said, “Developing personalized financial solutions for women business owners should be purposeful. We may notice and comprehend the obstacles that prohibit women from gaining access to money if we approach it as a conscious action. It will be little more than lip service if we don’t approach it as a determined effort.
According to the Africa: The Big Deal report, of the $4B invested into companies across Africa in 2021, “7% of the capital went to start-ups managed by female CEOs.” In other words, $1 of every $15 contributed will go to businesses run by women.
Chefaa, a healthtech firm from Egypt, Bankly, a fintech from Nigeria, Dabchy, a peer-to-peer marketplace from Tunisia, and Buupass, a transport company from Kenya are a few of the startups chosen for the 2022 VC4A Venture Showcase Africa program.
This is the reason why “VC4A decided to take action or the problems will never be addressed, beyond identifying the problem and raising awareness. In order to effectively engage investors and encourage capital support for exceptional women-led businesses, the Venture Showcase Africa a Women founder edition was created in April.
The selected firms will be coached by leading VC investors over the next two months and have access to the tailored VC4A curriculum before making their presentation at the 9th edition of the Africa Early Stage Investor Summit, according to Fadilah Tchoumba, secretary general of ABAN.
The three-day hybrid summit this year will be held from November 2-4, 2022, and is being co-organized by ABAN (African Business Angel Network). It will include a combination of virtual and in-person components, including Investor meets in over 25 cities worldwide.
In order to refer candidates to the Showcase, VC4A worked closely with the African investment community and Entrepreneur Support Organizations, involving investors in the screening, selection, and interview process. VC4A is an active participant committed to assisting the development of startup ecosystems in emerging markets.
