The Microsoft Store Now Allow Users to Install Individual Office Apps
The Microsoft Store experience is improving, and it isn’t always due to the enhancements released by Microsoft with the release of Windows 11.
The company is working on several fronts, and it recently decided to separate its Office apps from the Microsoft Store.
In other words, if you don’t require the entire Office suite, you can simply download Word, Excel, and PowerPoint from the Microsoft Store as standalone apps.
The change, which was discovered on January 1, appears to be live for everyone on Windows 11, though not all users are currently seeing the install button. Most likely, the rollout is already underway, so look for an announcement from Microsoft later this week.
Microsoft’s new online store
Meanwhile, the Microsoft Store is gradually becoming the go-to destination for anyone on Windows 11 who simply wants to install apps in a quick and easy manner.
Microsoft has worked hard to get it right, so the Store now allows third-party browsers to use their own engines. Other market players, such as Mozilla and Opera, have reacted positively to this change, with both companies launching browsers on the Microsoft Store.
“Until recently, Microsoft’s store policies required that all web browsers use the engine built into their platform, which meant we couldn’t ship the Firefox you know and love in the Windows Store.” This was bad not only for you, but also for the web, because it meant that the web on Windows 11 would only have the features that Microsoft was willing to provide. “People deserve options, and we’re glad there’s a simpler way to download Firefox on Windows,” Mozilla said.
The new Microsoft Office apps can be found on the App Store by searching for them using their short names (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
