South Africa’s Zapper Unveils Tap-On-Phone Payments
Merchants using Zapper’s platform will soon be able to take tap-on-phone payments, according to the company. Zapper is a South African independent mobile payments, insights, loyalty, and rewards platform.
The new feature allows them to accept practically all digital payments without the need for any additional point-of-sale hardware and regardless of whether or not customers have downloaded the Zapper app.
“Following a successful trial phase, we’ve made new capability available to all Zapper businesses, allowing them to accept both physical card payments and mobile wallet payments like Samsung Pay, Apple Pay, Garmin Pay, and others.” “The customer just taps the physical card or mobile device on the merchant’s compatible Android smartphone,” adds Zapper CEO Brett White.
This new update also enables pin-on-glass capability, which means that customers who have reached their verification limit can safely input their pin on the merchant’s Android smartphone and complete their transaction as they would on a traditional pin entry device.
Turning Your Phone Into a Point-of-Sale Device
“Previously, our merchant app was essentially a tool for our merchants to receive real-time payment confirmation feeds by push notification, removing the need to wait for an SMS, email, or going into the merchant portal online.” It also allowed merchants to quickly and simply generate a QR code or payment link. “Now, the program converts the merchant’s phone into a point-of-sale device without any additional peripheral gear,” White explains.
Whether or not they have the Zapper consumer app on their phone, all customers in South Africa will be able to use the new payment method.
“Our Zapper Merchant app will still allow customers to scan and pay with their physical bank card or mobile wallets, or tap and pay using the app-generated Zapper QR code.” “Our latest offering’s major goal is to ensure that our merchants can accept as many payment methods as possible,” White explains.
How to Use Zapper On Your Device Tap-On-Phone
To start collecting tap-on-phone payments, an existing merchant only has to have the Zapper merchant app loaded on an Android device that is NFC enabled and running version 9.0 or later.
Consumers will benefit from not having to hand over their cards to the merchant, making it a truly safe and contactless payment experience. The security of the tap-on-phone offering meets the stringent requirements of physical point of sale devices, and consumers will benefit from not having to hand over their cards to the merchant, making it a truly safe and contactless payment experience.
Zapper retailers may now take a wide range of payment methods thanks to this recent innovation. This includes vouchers, mobile wallets, and third-party choices like Ozow; Buy Now Pay Later options like MoreTyme; cryptocurrency like 6dot50; and now card-present purchases via the tap-on-phone offering – all through a single account.
“The tap-on-phone offering is a significant addition to our payment network and, along with our continuously evolving loyalty and rewards offering, Zapper merchants now have a comprehensive payment acceptance capability and enterprise-level retail insights and payment solution that can be managed entirely via their smartphone,” White wraps up.
