Software Systems:The Driving Force Behind the e-Revolution
This was the title of the lecture at the sixth inaugural lecture of the University of Lagos,Nigeria delivered by Prof Charles Uwadia,a Professor of Computer sciences with over three decades of teaching and research experience.In an event that saw the who is who in the IT Industry in Nigeria in attendance,Prof Uwadia eloquently took the audience through the fundamentals of Software systems and the pivotal role Software Systems play in the paradigm called e-revolution.In his words”softwares has been depicted as being the heart of e-revolution”.
His firm knowledge,scholastic prowess and acumen was brought to bare as he gradually explains the foundational position of software systems in Computer,Computational devices,Communication and embedded systems.The Don took us through the historical development of Software Systems and contributions made by Charles Babbage,Augusta Ada,Allan Turing and John Von Neumann.
Prof Uwadia also outlined his contribution over the years through his research work to the body of knowledge.
He pointed out how the development in the web,social networking sites,portal technologies,innovative intelligent and Expert systems are driving the e-revolution we are witnessing in recent times.
The high point of his lecture was his recommendations which were clearly outlined as follows
-The need for Nigeria to develop a framework for participating in the global e-revolution to avoid digital colonization.
-The need to develop and implement a National Software Policy
-Having a software development curricular and instruction in educational institutions from either kindergarten or primary school.
-Development of the software industry in Nigeria
-Adopting computing and computerisation as a way of life.
Some Icons of the industry present at the event including the hood and gown of the university community led by her eloquent and interesting vice chancellor,Prof A.B.Sofoluwe were Prof Ibidapo-obe,Chris Uwaje,Engr.Titi Omo-Ettu,Dr Jimson Olufuye,Chris Nwannenna,Demola Aladekomo,Amos Emmanuel,Adewale Jones,Dr GMM Obi,John Obaro and a host of others.
It was a well attended and in deed a great lecture!
