Ruforum and Mastercard Foundation TAGDEV announces 2024/2025 Scholarship for young Africans
The 2024–2025 RUFORUM/Mastercard Foundation TAGDev Scholarships are now accepting applications.
The 10 year (2023–2033) Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) program is being carried out by the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, Gulu University (Uganda), Egerton University (Kenya), Africa University (Zimbabwe), University of Free State (South Africa), Malawi University of Science and Technology (Malawi), University of Eldoret (Kenya), Uganda Martyrs University (Uganda), University of Port Harcourt (Nigeria), University of Cape Coast (Ghana), University of Bamenda (Cameroon), National University of Agriculture (Benin), and Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique (Morocco).
By equipping and enabling Africa’s youth and their institutions to lead the inclusive, equitable, and climate resilient transformation of agriculture and agrifood systems, the initiative aims to enhance universities and TVET institutions and better serve communities. In order to help young African students who are academically capable but face financial challenges finish their education, the program will provide support. Applications for the award are welcome from both men and women. Nonetheless, we strongly welcome applications from women, refugees, and people with impairments.
Scholarships for 2024/2025 academic year are only available at Gulu University (Uganda) and Egerton University (Kenya).
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants to the TAGDev 2.0 Scholarship need to take note of the following key eligibility criteria.
1. Be a national of Kenya and Uganda to benefit from the national respective scholarship quota
2. Be a refugee residing in Uganda and Kenya to benefit from a regional quota
3. Be from economically disadvantaged, marginalized communities, coming from conflict and post conflict areas.
4. Be less than 25 years for undergraduate and less than 30 years for masters studies at the time of application.
5. Be 29 years and below for a refugee and persons with disability for undergraduate studies and 34 years and below for refugees and persons with disability for masters studies at the time of application.
6. Should have completed secondary school and/or diploma for a Bachelors degree application not more than two years from the time of this call.
7. The applicant should meet admission criteria to eligible programs in the university of choice (Egerton University or Gulu University).
8. For admission into Gulu University for an undergraduate degree programme one must have attained a High School Certificate (HSC) also known as Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent.
9. For admission into Egerton University one must have completed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.
10. Demonstrate interest in agriculture, agribusiness and entrepreneurship
11. Demonstrate leadership qualities and commitment to service of humanity

Scholarship Benefits
- This is a full board comprehensive scholarship that covers: tuition fees, research costs, workshop and conference costs, living expenses including stipend and hostel, laptop, internship attachment, community engagement and field attachment, and entrepreneurship training.
- Consequently, considering the level of investment, successful applicants will be required to become high achievers, highly engaging and focused students/graduates and change makers contributing to outreach services in the communities, capable of creating enterprises that create jobs for themselves and others and have personal satisfaction and dynamism.
