Qualcomm Rolls out Snapdragon Seamless, a new Cross-platform Technology for Linking Multiple Devices
At the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii on Tuesday, Qualcomm unveiled a wide range of fresh goods and services, including its newest flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
A new cross-platform solution that enables the smooth integration of numerous devices into a single ecosystem was also presented by the company. According to the manufacturer, Snapdragon Seamless enables Android, Windows, and Snapdragon devices running other operating systems to find one other and share data and peripherals.
Even though Microsoft Windows has a Phone Link capability, Android phones and PCs lag far behind the seamless cross-platform connectivity between an iPhone and a Mac. In order to link two or more Apple products and continue using its services between devices, the company has successfully built a strong ecosystem among its gadgets throughout time.
Qualcomm hopes to achieve a comparable level of connectivity across Windows PCs and mobile devices powered by the Snapdragon processor with Snapdragon Seamless.
According to Qualcomm, the technology would make it simple for enabled devices to find one another and function as a single, integrated system. The company claimed that because gadgets from many manufacturers frequently struggle to interact with one another, there is less of a selection for consumers and a sense of lock-in as they feel compelled to buy just products from one brand. According to the press announcement, “with Snapdragon Seamless, device makers and OS partners can enhance and extend their multi-device experiences for consumers.”
Keyboards and mice can operate without hiccups on PCs, smartphones, and tablets thanks to Snapdragon Seamless. Additionally, users will be able to drag and drop files and open windows between devices. Additionally, it can enable earbuds to swap shrewdly in accordance with the importance of the audio source.
According to Qualcomm, the company is working with Microsoft, Android, Xiaomi, ASUS, Honor, Lenovo, and OPPO, among others, to develop multi-device cross-platform experiences made possible by Snapdragon Seamless. No precise rollout window was stated, but the service will roll out later this year across all major smartphone platforms.
Qualcomm claims that Snapdragon Seamless is integrated into its mobile platforms, including its most recent Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform, its most recent PC platform, Snapdragon X Elite, and its platforms for wearable technology and audio devices. Future extensions of the cross-platform technology will include XR, Auto, and IoT platforms.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform, which includes a number of new generative AI technologies and supports 240 fps gaming, was presented by the firm at the Snapdragon Summit. Additionally, Qualcomm unveiled the new Snapdragon X Elite platform for PCs, boasting some remarkable stats, including up to twice the CPU speed over the Intel Core i7-13800H and 50% “faster peak multi-threaded performance” over Apple Silicon M2.
