OpenAI Accelerates Audio AI Development Ahead of Planned Audio Device
OpenAI is apparently focusing more on its audio-based artificial intelligence (AI) models. According to a report, the San Francisco-based AI powerhouse has brought together numerous departments, including engineering, product, and research, to create a new audio generation model. This model is said to power the company’s audio-first AI device, which may be released later in 2026. Notably, a recent leak revealed that the ChatGPT company intends to introduce three new gadgets, including an AI Pen.
OpenAI Reportedly Preparing for Audio-First AI Device Launch
According to The Information (via TechCrunch), OpenAI has consolidated numerous teams over the last two months to speed up the creation of a new audio AI model and improve the performance of existing audio models that support features like Advanced Voice mode. The journal reported that the new model would be unveiled in early 2026, citing sources acquainted with the model.
This new AI audio generation model will purportedly include capabilities such as a more natural-sounding voice, improved management of user interruptions, and the ability to speak while the user is speaking to make the interaction feel more human. The final feature, if accurate, will be a significant increase above the current audio devices on the market.
The AI model is likely to be introduced early this year, while the audio-first device will not be available until late 2026. Not much is known about this item, although it is believed to be a screen-free experience, comparable to Humane’s AI Pin and Limitless’ AI Pendant. Notably, both products failed to satisfy customers, and while Humane was closed down and its assets were acquired by HP, Limitless was purchased by Meta last month.
According to a different story, OpenAI is presently in the vendor review phase and manufacturing is anticipated to begin shortly. Although nothing has been verified as of yet, the corporation is apparently going to let Foxconn handle the manufacturing in its Vietnam plant. The AI behemoth is reportedly developing two other gadgets, one of which is an AI pen. As of right present, nothing else is known about these devices.
