Obaloluwa Egbewunmi Wins ATAEx 2025 Award for Excellence in Innovation and Technology (DevOps)
Obaloluwa Egbewunmi, a globally experienced DevOps engineer and technology innovator, has emerged winner of the Excellence in Innovation and Technology (DevOps) category at the Africa Tech Alliance Excellence (ATAEx) Awards 2025, held alongside AfriTECH 5.0 at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos.
Egbewunmi clinched the award after securing 51% of the 2,785 votes cast, a decisive endorsement that underscores his influence and leadership in advancing DevOps engineering, cloud infrastructure, and modern technology practices across Africa and beyond.
The ATAEx Awards, organised by the Africa Tech Alliance Forum, celebrate individuals and organisations driving innovation, inclusion, and digital transformation within Africa’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
Announcing the award, Chike Onwuegbuchi, Co-Convener of the Africa Tech Alliance Forum and ATAEx Awards, said the recognition reflects both technical excellence and real-world impact.
“Obaloluwa Egbewunmi exemplifies the kind of African technologist we aim to celebrate with the ATAEx Awards, deeply skilled, globally exposed, and purpose-driven. His work in DevOps engineering continues to enable business transformation, operational efficiency, and scalable innovation across multiple ecosystems,” Onwuegbuchi said.
“Winning with over half of the total votes cast is a strong signal of industry confidence in his leadership and vision.”
A multidisciplinary engineer by training, Egbewunmi holds a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) and a Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, completed in 2012 and 2015 respectively. Rather than remain within a single discipline, he made a strategic transition into DevOps engineering, where he has distinguished himself at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, automation, reliability engineering, and operational excellence.
His professional experience spans major global innovation hubs. In Toronto, he consulted with a management consulting firm along Bay Street, contributing to enterprise-level technology and operational initiatives. In Silicon Valley, he worked with a fast-growing technology startup, helping to design and optimise high-performance cloud and DevOps pipelines in a fast-paced innovation environment.
Beyond industry practice, Egbewunmi is an active contributor to knowledge development in the DevOps space, with several publications focused on automation, cloud architecture, and modern infrastructure practices. He is also a member of globally recognised professional bodies, including the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
He is the co-founder of Techmaestro, an online digital academy dedicated to equipping learners with practical, industry-relevant technology skills, further reinforcing his commitment to mentorship, capacity building, and Africa’s digital future.
Speaking on the award, Obaloluwa Egbewunmi described the recognition as both humbling and motivating.
“This award is deeply meaningful to me because it reflects not just my personal journey, but the collective effort of communities, mentors, and teams I’ve worked with across continents,” Egbewunmi said.

“DevOps is ultimately about building reliable systems that empower people and businesses. I see this recognition as a call to continue contributing to Africa’s technology ecosystem through innovation, education, and leadership.”
The ATAEx Awards are part of AfriTECH 5.0, a flagship pan-African technology forum that convenes policymakers, industry leaders, innovators, and ecosystem builders to shape the continent’s digital and economic future.
With this recognition, Obaloluwa Egbewunmi joins a growing list of African technology leaders redefining global standards and proving that world-class innovation can emerge from, and be sustained within, the continent.
