Netflix is Developing New Features to Curb Password-sharing
The enormous streaming service Netflix is experimenting with new techniques to prevent password sharing on its site.
According to The Verge, the streaming behemoth released a new “Netflix Homes” option on Monday in Argentina, El Salvador, Horundas, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic.
As of August 22, 2022, Netflix subscribers who stream on TVs or TV-connected devices will have the opportunity to add a second household, which will result in higher monthly prices.
“As long as your account has not been used in that place before, you can watch Netflix for up to 2 weeks if you will only be using this TV temporarily. On the help page for Netflix Horundas, it was stated that beyond that point, the TV will be banned until you added the extra house.
Users will also be able to monitor and manage where their accounts are being used, according to Netflix.
When you sign out of a location, all TVs or TV-connected devices linked to that location will likewise be signed out of your account. However, if someone knows your password, they can sign back in.
The industry leader in streaming services suggested users update their passwords to stop their accounts from being utilized in other houses or at other locations.
According to the company, acquiring a second property will depend on your current plan in the following ways:
- Basic: add 1 extra home
- Standard: add up to 2 extra homes
- Premium: add up to 3 extra homes
Users will also be able to delete additional homes, which will disconnect all of the gadgets in that home from the account.
Netflix said in March that it would impose additional costs on consumers whose passwords are shared outside of their residences. Additionally, it was stated that users would be able to move their profile information to a new account or an Extra Member sub-account, preserving their watching history, My List, and customized recommendations.
