Kouncel, an Egyptian legal ed-tech business secures $1.2 million in pre-seed funding
Kouncel, an Egyptian legal ed-tech startup, has raised US$1.2 million in pre-seed funding to help it grow.
The fundraising round was attended by Zaldi Capital, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Academy for Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), and the Egyptian entrepreneurship development initiative Tanmia wa Tatweer. The funds will be used to expand the startup’s user base in Egypt and the MENA region.
Ibrahim Saleh founded the online video education platform Kouncel, which offers courses in areas such as arbitration, legal drafting, and intellectual property across multiple jurisdictions.
Kouncel, an online legal education platform, aims to provide modern learning to lawyers and businesses in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Among the courses available on the platform are Legal Drafting, Intellectual Property, Banking and Non-Banking Law, and Law for Startups.
For each subject, weekly learning sequences are used.
Short films are interwoven with interactive learning exercises in each learning sequence, allowing students to quickly apply what they’ve learned.
“Education is a key component” of Egypt’s Economic Vision 2030, according to Saleh. “Law plays an important role in creating healthy environments for businesses and promoting FDIs, and we aim to provide everyone in the legal field with a highly sophisticated education experience that will positively impact the ecosystem,” he said.
Approximately $280,000 of the funds raised will be paid out in cash, with the remainder coming in the form of in-kind services.
