Nigerian Edtech Startup, Kibo School Secures $2 Million Seed Round
The co-founder of Code.org’s venture capital business, Neo, led a $2 million seed round for the Nigerian edtech startup Kibo School.
Future Africa, Pledges, and other angel investors also contributed to the investment round.
Online school Kibo School provides access to talent and networks in addition to top-notch degrees. Ope Bukola established it in 2021.
The startup combines the versatility of self-paced learning with a lively network of peers and instructors to unlock deeper knowledge acquisition, motivation, and accountability. She co-founded the Kibo School with Rob Cobb and Keno Omu.
“The degree program’s introduction is the main goal of the seed round. While going through the accreditation application process, we will keep on providing these quick courses. She added that 400 students from 13 African countries had been trained through the school’s short courses, which were established last year, but that right now, enrolling students in our degree programs is our top focus.
Kibo has made the application accessible to students in six places in Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana to facilitate occasional meet-ups. Applicants must live at least 100 kilometers away from these cities in order to qualify.
The company has now raised a total of $2.4m in funding after the pre-seed round from last year.
With the additional funding, the online school will be able to provide multiple STEM degree programs to students in Africa.
