Kenyan e-Health Startup, MyHealth Africa Closes $1m in Seed Funding for Expansion
MyHealth Africa, a Kenya-based healthtech startup, has raised $1 million in seed funding to expand its presence in Africa.
The round was led by GIIG Africa Fund, with participation from Samurai Incubate, a family office, and existing investors.
The funding comes after the startup was named the Top HealthTech Startup in Africa by the Global Startup Awards (GSA) Africa, the GIIG Africa Fund’s exclusive vehicle for finding, funding, and scaling the continent’s innovative startups.
MyHealth Africa, founded in 2017 by Ryan Marincowitz, is a specialized healthcare booking platform and medical management system.
It is a comprehensive healthcare platform that links patients to local and international health specialists and hospitals.
According to Statista, Kenya had 12,792 registered medical doctors as of 2020, resulting in a physician-to-population ratio of 26. The country had 10,377 doctors in 2016.
As a result, MyHealth Africa enables patients to obtain healthcare services from doctors and providers worldwide, either virtually or in person.
Furthermore, in 2023, the company plans to open two new regions, including the Middle East and South Asia, which are already its second and third-largest markets.
Every month, MyHealth claims to help hundreds of patients from these two markets gain access to specialized healthcare services in the Middle East, Europe, South Asia, and Asia, currently from Kenya.
In addition, the company claims to assist over 1,200 patients per month, with patient visits increasing by 11% month on month in 2022.
Furthermore, the company claims to have assisted over 27,000 patients in gaining access to specialized healthcare services from over 1,500 medical professionals and health facilities.
