INTEL Begins Massive Training of Teachers In Nigeria
As quality education is key to national development, Intel-a leading Technology Company has begun a massive training programme for Nigerian teachers-in-training beginning with the Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education Kumbotso, Kano state. Reputed to be the largest teacher training institute in Nigeria it has a student enrolment of over twenty thousand. Over 50 lecturers of the institution benefited from the training in the first instance. The trained lecturers will in turn deliver the Intel Teach content to the students of the school through the General Studies course, which is compulsory for all students
Intel’s Corporate Affairs manager in Nigeria Mr Osagie Ogunbor said the move was in sync with Intel’s determination to continually promote the use of technology to enhance learning. He explained that the lecturers received very detailed training ranging from basic use of the computer to the use of technology to collaborate and facilitate knowledge. He explained that the 21st century classroom is fast moving away from the teacher-centric environment to a student centric one where the teacher using technology is only a facilitator of learning by acting as a guide to students by fostering healthy collaboration.
Mr Ogunbor explained that the train the Trainer model being adopted by Intel was an efficient way of cascading the training across all the major Teacher Training Colleges in Nigeria. He however added that Intel would continual support the college in ensuring that the programme is sustainable over the years. He thanked the management of the Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education especially the Provost Dr. Sule Musa for whole-heartedly supporting the programme by providing relevant ICT infrastructure in the school. You may wish to know that prior to the training, the College recently ordered over one hundred brand new computers with connectivity to guaranty a successful exercise.
Dr. Sule Musa on his part traced Intel’s support for the college in the area of teacher training to over 5 years. He said the college views Intel as a worthy partner in enhancing the quality of Education in the institution and beyond. The provost promised to do everything possible to ensure that the partnership bears good fruit.
