Instagram Head Shares 2022 Goals, Plans to Double Down on Videos, Give Users More Control
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced the photo-sharing app’s key priorities for 2022 on Tuesday, including a focus on videos.
He emphasized videos, messaging, transparency, and creators as the four key areas that the Meta-owned platform will focus on in the coming year.
The Instagram CEO also discussed major updates to the app this year, such as sensitive content control and the ability to hide like counts. This year, Instagram also released Limits and Hidden Words, which block abusive direct message (DM) requests.
Mosseri revealed Instagram’s general goals for 2022 in a video posted on Twitter.
“We’ll have to rethink what Instagram is because the world is changing quickly and we’ll have to change with it,” Mosseri said. Mosseri lists Instagram’s priorities for 2022 in the video, which include videos, messaging, transparency, and creators.
Instagram intends to consolidate all of its video formats around Reels in the coming year.
“We’re going to double down on video, we’re not just a photo-sharing app, and consolidate all our video formats around Reels and continue to grow that product,” he added. In the coming year, Instagram will focus on messaging and will ramp up work on controls to improve transparency, according to Mosseri. He promised that Instagram would introduce more monetisation products to assist and empower creators to earn a living on the platform.
“We’re considering who we are, what we value, and what kind of change we want to see in the world,” Mosseri explained.
Mosseri also discusses the features that Instagram introduced this year to give users more control over their feeds and profiles in the video. Controls for filtering sensitive content, a ‘hide like count’ feature, and a ‘limits’ feature are among them.
The sensitivity filter, which was released in July, allows users to limit the amount of potentially sensitive content they see on their “Explore” page. Users can hide the number of likes on their posts by using the hide like count feature. Limits automatically hide comments and DM requests from people who do not follow the user or who have only recently begun following the user.
