Grammy award-winning artist unveils NFT platform for African creators and secures pre-seed funding
AVC, founded by a Grammy Award-winning Nigerian musician, has announced the launch of its platform to assist content creators in creating and trading non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The AVC platform, based in Lagos and Accra, aims to make it easy for African creators to create, manage, and sell digital art and assets by collaborating with global NFT exchanges.
For the uninitiated, NFTs use blockchain technology to create unique, non-replicable digital assets that can be easily stored and exchanged online. The market has recently been booming.
Eric Utere, known professionally as LeriQ, a Nigerian Grammy award-winning producer and songwriter, founded AVC in 2020 and is currently working with artists in Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa, with plans to expand across the continent.
The platform is designed to help creators grow their brands and reach global markets by utilizing NFT technology.
Kepple Africa Ventures, Cameron Hejazi (CEO of NFT Platform Cent.co), Ronald Chagoury Jr., and several angel investors recently invested in the startup, which has raised an undisclosed amount of funding to enable growth in onboarding creators.
“There are currently extremely high barriers to entry into the metaverse for African content creators.” By providing a seamless and frictionless platform, AVC hopes to assist content creators in creating and selling digital assets. “We also want to educate content creators about the opportunity to sell digital assets like NFTs,” Utere added.
Each creator has a profile on the AVC platform where they can upload assets and generate NFTs. Creators can sell their NFTs on multiple exchanges with which AVC has partnered, and they will receive their funds once the NFT is sold. On their profile, they can also track their sales.
“We intend to build a new community around AVC creators, members, and the general public, using a token to facilitate a thriving ecosystem,” Utere explained.
Despite the fact that AVC is still in pre-launch and pre-revenue mode, it claims to have already engaged with some of Africa’s top content creators.
“The goal now that we have completed fundraising and are about to launch is to fully secure these content creators as part of the collective,” Utere said.
