GPT-5 Is Coming: Here’s How It Could Redefine Your AI Experience

As the weather warms up, I’m sweating profusely at my desk and excitedly anticipating the next big ChatGPT launch, which should happen very soon.

The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, stated a few weeks ago that ChatGPT-5 is “probably coming sometime this summer.”

I’m very sure that summer has arrived as I write this piece about the necessity of air conditioning in the UK. So, where is the next GPT version?

You’re probably wondering what ChatGPT-5 is and why you should care about it if, like the majority of the general public, you don’t keep up with the nearly daily updates that occur in the field of artificial intelligence.

Although we don’t know much about what ChatGPT’s future holds, Altman and colleagues’ statements provide some insight.

No more misunderstandings

There isn’t a lot of information available about ChatGPT-5, but in recent months, we have received some tidbits of information that give us a general idea of what to anticipate when the new AI model launches in the upcoming months.

First of all, ChatGPT 4o’s capabilities will undoubtedly advance, giving consumers access to more potent AI tools for daily chores. Until OpenAI releases the new model, we won’t know how much more powerful ChatGPT-5 will be than its predecessor. Given how huge the next release is expected to be, I’d imagine that it happens in a livestream akin to 12 Days of OpenAI from December of last year.

The simplification of the AI selection process, which Sam Altman referred to as “magic unified intelligence” back in February, is the significant advancement that we are certain will occur with ChatGPT-5.

Our greatest understanding of ChatGPT to far comes from Altman’s roadmap, which was posted on X. He stated, “We will release GPT-5 as a system that incorporates a lot of our technology, including o3, in both ChatGPT and our API. O3 will no longer be available for purchase as a stand-alone model.

Subject to abuse levels, ChatGPT’s free tier will have unrestricted chat access to GPT-5 at standard intelligence settings. The GPT-5 can be run at a higher degree of intelligence by ChatGPT Plus members, and even higher levels of intelligence by Pro subscribers. These models will include deep research, speech, canvas, and search, among other things.

“I think we will be out of that whole mess soon”

Altman discussed the anticipated release date of GPT-5 as somewhere around the summer months in the Northern Hemisphere during the first episode of the official OpenAI podcast last month.

“It used to be much clearer,” Altman stated in the podcast. One model would be trained and then released, followed by another model that would be trained and released. The systems are now lot more complicated, and we are always improving them through post-training.

Do we continue to refer to GPT-5 as GPT-5, as we do with 4o, or do we name those 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3 to let you know about the version changes if we keep improving it?”

Although he acknowledges that there is a better method to name OpenAI’s products than the way the firm handled 4o, he continues by saying that he does not yet have an answer to that topic.

Altman continues, “I am excited to just get to GPT-5 and GPT-6, and I think that’ll be easier for people to use, and you won’t have to think, do I want o4-mini-high or o3 or o4?”

Altman declares at the conclusion of the podcast segment in which he talks about the impending GPT-5 model, “I think we will be out of that whole mess soon.”

Sam, I hope so too. Writing about ChatGPT’s diverse range of models is becoming more challenging since not everyone is aware of their differences.

In my opinion, ChatGPT need a rebranding in which models are created for the general public to comprehend and fully utilize. GPT-5 may be the game-changer that takes AI to the next level due to its ability to streamline the entire process as well as its power.
