Google Gemini YouTube Music Extension Rolls Out to Users Globally, Will Play Songs on Command
A recent addition to Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Gemini is now available. Now, users may ask the AI assistant directly to play songs from YouTube Music. This is being accomplished by the integration of the app into the platform with a new YouTube Music extension for Gemini. Although the feature has finally started to roll out, the tech giant only gave a quick demonstration of the extension during last week’s I/O event. Users will require both the YouTube Music app and the Gemini app in order to utilize this function on their smartphone.
What is the YouTube Music Extension for Gemini?
Users must first enable the extension in order to test it out. There are two methods available. Users may access the YouTube Music extension by opening the Gemini web client, navigating to Settings > Extensions, and then scrolling down to activate the extension. As long as the same account is used in both locations, the functionality that has been toggled on will function on the smartphone.
Using the smartphone directly is another approach to activate it. When a user asks the chatbot in the Gemini app to play music, an automatic pop-up window requesting that they activate the extension will display. Gemini may play music via the YouTube Music app by turning it on.
Features of Gemini’s YouTube Music Extension Expounded
Gemini can now process written or spoken commands to play music from a specific album, artist, genre, and more with the help of this addon. It can also accept more sophisticated commands, like “play music that I enjoy.” The AI will play the user’s past music selections and look through their YouTube Music library to fulfill this request. Following this integration, Google has released a lengthy list of functions that Gemini will be able to carry out.
The Gemini AI assistant was criticized at launch for being too basic and lacking sufficient functions to compete with the Google Assistant. At the time, it was unable to finish tasks using a third-party app or set alarms or reminders. As of right now, the AI chatbot is integrated with YouTube, YouTube Music, Google Workspace, Google Maps, Google Flights, and Google Hotels. It still lacks the Spotify and WhatsApp integrations, despite numerous users’ requests for them.
