Ethiopian Tech African Women (TAW) Accelerator Unveils to Support Women-owned African Tech Startups
To help women-owned African tech enterprises get from the idea stage to operational status, the Tech African Women (TAW) program, located in Ethiopia, has just begun.
TAW is an initiative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in collaboration with Betacube, and is open to submissions from female-led idea stage firms in Tunisia, Senegal, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.
The program’s goal is to “empower” female founders to use their abilities to leverage strong tech firms, expedite the development of project ideas into tested business models, and create alliances amongst various African ecosystems.
Participants will have access to a pool of software developers and designers as well as professionals in marketing and finance who will support and guide their teams.
The program, which will take place between August and December, will feature training bootcamps, pitching challenges, and a two-month online incubation program for the top two startups from each nation.
A final ceremony including a pitch competition for the opportunity to win the grand prize of a US$7,000 cash award will take place in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia at the ECA Conference Centre.
According to organizers, “TAW targets female-led and idea-stage digital firms and provides these startup teams with an exclusive opportunity to learn new entrepreneurial skills, form alliances with their African peers, boost regional business exposure, and access finance.”
It supports strategies for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by strengthening the abilities of female entrepreneurs who wish to go deep into creating enterprises with a positive social impact.
