Cameroon sends a delegation to the GBB in an attempt to emulate Nigeria’s e-Government success story.
A delegation from Cameroon’s Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms recently visited Nigeria to inspect the depth of E-government implementation in Nigeria, which was developed and implemented with the assistance of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and to tour the level of infrastructure invested in achieving the heights Nigeria has achieved thus far.
Galaxy Backbone (GBB), a provider of digital infrastructure and shared services and an agency of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, has been the focal agency for implementing Nigeria’s e-government Masterplan.
In this light, they paid a visit to the organization to inspect the infrastructure and learn more about the Nigerian E-government implementation level.
Professor Mohammad Bello Abubakar, managing director/CEO of GBB, welcomed delegates led by Ms. Tabod Jacqueline Mejand, the Cameroonian Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms’ inspector general, at the Galaxy Backbone Corporate Headquarters.
He expressed his delight at the great work KOICA has been able to do in Nigeria and looks forward to the work they will be doing in assisting the Cameroonian nation in raising the level of e-Ggovernment in their country.
‘I am delighted that the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms is taking this giant step towards actualizing e-Government in Cameroon with the support of our friends and partners in KOICA,’ Prof. Abubakar said. While I advise you to expect challenges along the way, I believe you will have a lot of success with this engagement.’
He also urged the delegation to be as firm as possible in their resolve and to continue to seek new ways of implementing e-Government strategies in their country, citing the enormous benefits of e-Government to any nation.
“We all know the benefits of e-government platforms,” he says. In Nigeria, we have already begun to reap the benefits.”
The Delegation paid a visit to Galaxy Backbone’s National Shared Services Centre (NSSC), which houses GBB’s world-class Tier III Datacenter.
They were first taken to the old Datacentre before being transferred to the Uptime certified Tier III Datacentre and Network Monitoring and Management Centre.
The Cameroonian delegates were very impressed with the level of investment and work that the Nigerian government has put into ensuring that e-government in Nigeria is a thing of the past through Galaxy Backbone (GBB).
Ms. Mejand, the head of the Cameroonian and KOICA delegation on this visit, responded that Cameroon has an e-government plan but lacks coordination and exposure, hence the visit.
She thanked GBB for the warm welcome and the time it took to take them through.

GBB’s vision is to “become the leading enabler of digital inclusion in Africa,” so the organization sees this as a step toward enabling digital services in other African countries.
