Blueroomcare, Nigerian Startup Launches Platform to Connect Users With Therapists
Licensed therapists may now be reached quickly and affordably via a platform created by the Nigerian business Blueroomcare.
Blueroomcare, which was introduced around the end of last year, enables customers to speak with therapists via voice, video, and in-app messaging.
Moses Aiyenuro, the startup’s founder and CEO, told Disrupt Africa, “We have a safe online platform to help those confronting life’s issues by providing easy, inexpensive and private access to professional counseling.”
The inspiration for Blueroomcare came from Aiyenuro’s own depressive episode in 2020 after skipping a test.
“I found it difficult to reach out to people because I didn’t want to be perceived as a sick person, but what really astonished me was when I conducted a little study with about 100 young people. Eighty percent of respondents had experienced emotional anguish, and more than 60% admitted they were unable to open up due to the stigma, the author added. That inspired me to offer a remedy to this significant problem, she said.
Aiyenuro believes Blueroomcare, the solution, has a sizable addressable market.
“The mental health issue in Nigeria is severe. According to him, one in four Nigerians experience mental illness, but assistance is limited by limited funding and a staffing shortage.
“It is very impossible to receive care in a timely manner due to the stigma associated with mental health, the lack of mental health specialists, the high expense of therapy, and other factors. We ensure that the care we offer is efficient and reasonable for the average Nigerian in addition to making it accessible.
In order to expand, Blueroomcare, which has only been supported by grants, has formed a number of important alliances. By the end of the year, it wants to have 1,000 users, and according to Aiyenuro, Nigeria will continue to be its primary market.
