AWS Unveils 2nd African Office in Lagos, Nigeria
The first office of Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), a division of Amazon.com, Inc., has officially opened in Lagos, Nigeria.
The opening of the new office in Lagos is part of AWS’s effort to serve the country’s expanding customer and partner base. The office will provide assistance to businesses of all sizes, including small businesses, large corporations, and government agencies, as they migrate to the AWS Cloud.
AWS can better respond to the rise in customer and partner use of AWS services in Nigeria by launching a Lagos branch. With a local presence, AWS will serve both new and current clients wishing to use AWS goods and services to innovate, cut costs associated with information technology (IT), and expand their businesses in the cloud.
The opening of our first AWS office in Nigeria excites us. Lagos is home to numerous noteworthy Nigerian businesses leading the world in digital innovation, as well as a talent pool of highly competent and creative individuals, according to Amrote Abdella, regional manager of Sub-Saharan Africa at AWS.

The Nigerian Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy expressed their appreciation for the launch of the new AWS office in Lagos. The Minister of Communications and the Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim, stated:
“The Service Infrastructure Pillar of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) emphasizes the importance of digital platforms in the development of a robust digital economy. The programs of Amazon Web Services support the development of such platforms and we look forward to partnering with AWS to accelerate the implementation of NDEPS”
The newest investment made by AWS in Africa is the new Lagos office. Teams of AWS account managers, partner managers, solutions architects, and other roles assist Nigerian clients with everything from big data analytics to development and test environments, mobile, web, and social apps, enterprise business applications, Internet of Things (IoT), and mission-critical workloads.
Some of the most well-known and rapidly expanding startups and companies in Nigeria, including SeamlessHR, Yellow Card, BFree, Bankly, and government agencies, are customers of AWS.
With initiatives like AWS Activate and educational programs like AWS Academy, AWS Educate, and AWS re/Start, AWS also actively supports Nigerian businesses and the community. Startups can receive up to $100,000 in AWS credits through AWS Activate, along with training, support, and connections to incubators, accelerators, and venture capital firms.
University students, teachers, and other professionals can speed their learning about cloud computing by gaining knowledge and skills regarding AWS. The University of Benin, University of Jos, and Igbinedion University are all members of the AWS Academy in Nigeria.
In order to help people become ready for entry-level cloud careers, AWS re/Start is a 12-week, in-person, skills-based training program that covers essential AWS Cloud capabilities as well as useful career skills, such interviewing and resume writing.
