AVCA to upskill Africa-focussed private capital professionals

The African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association will establish an AVCA Training Academy to provide private investment professional development across the continent. As a first of its kind in the industry, the move is aims to support private investment professionals focussed on Africa through an agile and innovative learning platform tailored to the continent’s diverse yet dynamic market.
AVCA Academy looks to catalyze investments in differnet asset classes while deepening the capacity of Africa’s institutional investors navigating investments in private equity, private credit, venture capital, and supporting the right fund managers through their capital raising, deployment, and exit journeys.
Programs offered on AVCA’a platform will carry a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certification demonstrating the credibility of the instiution and its programmes.
The lack of diversity in institutional capital investors in VC and PE funds, creates an urgent need for AVCA academy. In this synchronized learning platform particpants get detailed resources supporting their independent learning experience.
Abi Mustapha-Maduakor, the CEO at AVCA described AVCA Academy as a way of offering “support needed to get African private equity on track to shape an economic global powerhouse of the future.”
As per AVCA’s 2020 Annual African PE Data Tracker, 1,257 PE deals worth US$21.7bn were registered between 2015 and 2020. Through the institution, fund managers will receive fundrasing support, value creation and ESG.
Insititutional investors will get fund manager evaluation support, governance and reporting. Professional law firms,industry regulators, and fund administrators will receive legal agreement training, regulator training, and GP/LP relationship management.
