Application is now Open to Netflix Scholarship for East African Students
Netflix, one of the world’s leading entertainment streaming services, has launched the Creative Equity Scholarship Fund (CESF) for film and television students in the Eastern African region.
The $1 million scholarship fund for Sub-Saharan students is part of Netflix’s global Netflix Creative Equity Fund, which was launched in 2021 and will be allocated to various initiatives over the next five years with the goal of developing a strong, diverse pipeline of creatives globally.
The scholarship fund will cover tuition, housing, study materials, and living expenses at select partner institutions in Kenya where beneficiaries have been accepted to pursue a course of study in the TV and film disciplines in the 2022 academic year.
The Netflix CESF is expected to be implemented across the region in the academic year beginning in 2022, with Netflix partnering with HEVA Fund as an implementing partner/fund administrator in the East African region.
This is how it works:
The Netflix CESF is intended to provide financial assistance in the form of full scholarships at partner higher education institutions in Kenya to support the formal qualification and training of East African creatives. The East African countries listed below will be eligible: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan are among the countries involved.
The fund will be available to students who have been accepted to study in various film and television-related disciplines at the following partner institutions for the 2022 academic year:
- Africa Digital Media Institute (ADMI)
- Kenya Film School (KFS)
- KCA University
- Kenyatta University
- United States International University Africa (USIU)
Applications are now being accepted and can be found on the application portal. Applications will be accepted until April 22, 2022, at 23:59 p.m. EAT

The Netflix CESF, which has already been launched in Southern Africa for film and television studies at partner institutions in South Africa, will benefit students from other parts of Africa, particularly West and Central Africa. Fund administration partners for the West and Central Africa regions will be announced in due course, along with the call for applications.
