All Users Can Now Access a “Lightweight” Version of Deep Research with ChatGPT

OpenAI is expanding its Deep Research artificial intelligence (AI) agent to all ChatGPT customers. The AI company, which is based in San Francisco, declared that it is now making a “lightweight” version of the tool available to all platform users. Previously, the tool was only available to subscribers who paid for it. The o4-mini AI model will power this Deep Research version, which will have specific rate limitations. Only a few weeks after Google made its Deep Research model publicly available, the AI agent was expanded.
OpenAI’s Deep Research AI Agent Is Coming to All Users
The announcement of Deep Research’s growth was made by OpenAI’s official handle on X, formerly known as Twitter. In contrast to paid customers who will have higher rate limits, this move will grant free users their initial access to the AI agent. According to the AI company, the o4-mini AI model is now powering the functionality, resulting in cost-effective tool utilization.
According to the company’s website, ChatGPT free users will receive five light-weight Deep Research queries each month as a result. Users of ChatGPT Pro who previously received 100 queries per month will now receive 250 queries in the same amount of time.
Once the usual limit is hit, the queries are automatically shifted to the lightweight version. Each month, users with Plus and Team plans are allowed to submit up to 25 Deep Research queries. This will be available to Enterprise and Edu subscribers the following week, with rate caps akin to those of the Team plan.
According to OpenAI, the lightweight Deep Research version is less expensive to process and “nearly as intelligent” as the standard version. According to the company, the quality of the responses will not be affected even though they would be shorter than the standard form.
Deep Research’s lightweight version was accessible to Gadgets 360 employees. The icon can be found next to the rationale icon, beneath the text box. Users will need to communicate a primary query with the AI agent. On the basis of it, ChatGPT will pose queries in order to focus the research and identify the main needs. It will then perform research, which may take five to thirty minutes.
