Instagram is Reportedly Working on Feature to Allow Users Reply to Stories With Voice Messages, Images
According to a feature tracker, Instagram is working on a feature that will allow users to respond to stories with voice messages and images.
The social platform for image and video sharing recently added support for liking stories, which would send users a notification instead of a new message in their inbox. While the company has yet to reveal any details about the currently in development feature, it has recently introduced a new product tagging feature for users in the United States, which was previously available only to business and creator accounts on the platform.
According to Alessandro Paluzzi, a popular app developer, the Meta-owned social network is working on a new feature that will allow users to respond to stories with their voice or an image. In a screenshot of the interface for responding to an Instagram story, which was possibly discovered by reverse-engineering the app, a microphone icon and an image icon were shown. The screenshot does not specify whether the feature was discovered in the app’s iOS or Android versions.

Responding via voice messages could be useful for users who want to respond to a message quickly without having to type it out. This could reduce the time it takes to tap on a user’s profile at the top of their story, then tap on the Message button on their profile to send a voice message or an image after viewing a story.
Currently, users can respond to stories with one of eight ‘Quick Reactions’ emoji, a text message, or a GIF. Paluzzi revealed on March 25 that Instagram was working on allowing users to like stories on the website, following the release of the feature on iOS and Android.
It is worth noting, however, that not all features in development, such as the ability to respond to stories with voice messages and images, will be released at some point. Instagram has yet to reveal any details about the feature that has been spotted in development for the app’s mobile version.
Meanwhile, Instagram recently rolled out its product-tagging feature to all US users, allowing them to tag products in their Instagram posts. Previously, the feature was only available to users with creator or business accounts. Instagram users in other regions are expected to get the feature in the coming months.
Instagram also introduced auto-generated captions for user-shared videos earlier this month, a feature that rival video sharing service TikTok also offers.
