WhatsApp is Working on a Feature to Enable iOS Devices Import Chats From Android Devices
WhatsApp for iOS may soon allow users to transfer their chat history from an Android device to an iPhone.
At the moment, iPhone WhatsApp users may only migrate their talks from an existing iPhone handset and cannot move their chat history from an Android device.
Last year, the instant messaging software allowed users of certain Samsung and Google Pixel phones to transfer their chats from an iPhone.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp for iOS beta version 22.2.74 has references to the possibility to import chat history from an Android device.
The source supplied a screenshot showing WhatsApp asking users for permission to import chat history.
The new experience is still in the works and has not yet been made available to beta testers. As a result, it may take some time before it becomes a reality for end customers.
In September of last year, WhatsApp published beta version 2.21.20.11 for Android users, which included the possibility to move chat history from an Android handset to an iOS device. Earlier that month, a similar notification surfaced on WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.21.19.1.
To relocate conversation history, users may need to physically connect their Android phones to a new iOS device using a USB Type-C-to-Lightning connector.
According to WABetaInfo, the transfer process may also necessitate customers installing Apple’s Move to iOS software on their Android smartphones.
WhatsApp brought the chat transfer capability from iOS to some Samsung handsets in August of last year. In late October, it was extended to Google Pixel devices. The ability to move chats from iOS is also accessible out of the box for Android 12 smartphones.
