3 Events shaping the Start-up Ecosystem in Africa
These three events in September are continuously shaping the African start-up ecosystem in now small way.The events are:
–Angel Investors Summit by the African Business Angel Network :
On Wednesday September 23, the African Business Angel Network (ABAN), Lagos Angels Network (LAN), DEMO Africa and VC4Africa,will jointly present “The African Opportunity: Angel Investing in Africa” Investor Summit at DEMO Africa 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria. Following the successful edition of last year’s Investor Summit at DEMO Africa which resulted in the formation of ABAN, the 2015 summit will again bring together investors from the Cairo Angels, Lagos Angels Network, Ivoire Business Angels, Viktoria Angels, Ghana Angel Investors Network, Africa Angels Network, Cameroon Angels, Silicon Cape and others to exchange best practices, share lessons learned and set the road map for the future. Experts from InfoDev, the WorldBank, African Development Bank are expected.
–DEMO Africa 2015:
September 24,DEMO Africa 2015 will attract insightful media, critical venture capitalists, respected technology business development professionals, connected corporate IT professionals, and the most-promising new technology companies in Africa.
–LIONS Summit(September 23)
This is a closed session of the Liberalizing Innovation Opportunity Nations (LIONS@FRICA) partner members. An innovative partnership that seeks to mobilize the knowledge, expertise and resources of leading public and private institutions to encourage and enhance Africa’s innovation ecosystem and to spur entrepreneurship by investing in the 4C’s: Capacity-building, access to Capital, enhanced Connectivity to global markets, andCredibility by raising awareness of Africa’s innovation potential. Launched at the 2012 World Economic Forum on Africa, the partnership is on track to achieve its ambitious goal to support 100,000 entrepreneurs as they launch and expand technology-based businesses by 2020. Founding partners of the partnership include: the U.S. State Department, Global Entrepreneurship Week, Microsoft, Venture Capital for Africa, Nokia, InfoDEV, African Development Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development, DEMO, Startup Weekend,Appfrica, Business Action for Africa, Business Fights Poverty, and Venture Hive.
