Zambian’s Lake Harvest has joined the Tingg digital payment ecosystem.
Cellulant, a leading Pan-African payments firm, has teamed with Lake Harvest, one of Zambia’s leading fish distributors, to enable mobile payments using the Tingg one-stop digital payment platform in all of their shops.
Lake Harvest has prioritized taking all types of mobile money to provide their consumers with a seamless payment experience as consumer shopping habits shift. Lake Harvest explained that this was prompted by client demand for easier ways to pay for their items that did not need the trouble of obtaining cash from their mobile money network.
Cellulant’s payment platform, Tingg, will be installed at all 13 Lake Harvest locations across Zambia, allowing them to accept all types of mobile money. Customers will be able to pay quickly and easily by dialing a short code from any phone.
Cellulant’s goal is to shatter the fragmentation in the payments market, hence Tingg has been pushed out to key stores around the country, putting it at the vanguard of Zambia’s digital payments revolution.

“A large distributor like Lake Harvest joining the Tingg ecosystem, supports the growing trend of an increase in the usage of digital payments over traditional payment methods,” stated Gilbert Lungu, Country Manager of Cellulant Zambia.
“Platforms like Tingg answer for cash management difficulties while delivering improved reconciliation and settlement choices for enterprises,” he said, referring to the role of digital payments in speeding corporate performance. This allows them to focus on improving consumer convenience and providing superior services.”
In the aftermath of COVID-19 restrictions in Zambia, the government’s desire to reduce cash handling by supporting contactless payments as a safer option has increased the uptake of digital payments.
According to the Bank of Zambia, the value of mobile payments in June 2021 was K76.6 billion, indicating a steady increase from June 2020, when it was K43.1 billion.
The COVID-19 pandemic has ushered in a new trend: more people are finding that they don’t want to utilize cash as often as they used to.
The Zambian government, through regulators, continues to emphasize this, as mobile money wallets are becoming increasingly popular as a means of holding value, but just a few retailers and distribution centers accept them.
“Since going live with this Tingg, we’ve found that clients are expressing joy in having this easier means of paying,” Lake Harvest General Manager Steven Chidove said. It’s obvious that this improves their customer experience when they visit our stores by eliminating morning lines at distribution locations during peak traffic periods.”
In the long run, this collaboration will be critical in facilitating corporate transactions that employ technology to make conducting business throughout the country easier while also improving individuals’ lives.
The Finscope 2020 in Zambia survey found a 44.5 percent increase in mobile money users over a five-year period, with 58.5 percent of individuals using it. These customers now require access points to utilize mobile money directly where they shop on a daily basis.
Cellulant’s work to enable frictionless payments for businesses and customers across Africa is centered on this. The payments company integrates digital payments in 35 countries and works with over 2000 merchants to provide millions of customers with new options.
