How Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) Empowers Several Nigerian Girls
The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre – W.TEC –a Nigerian non-governmental organization working to encourage Nigerian girls and women to use information and communication technology (ICT) to empower themselves socially and economically through technology literacy training, technology-based projects, mentoring, work placement and research ,recently held her fifth Girls Technology Camp in Lagos, Nigeria.
The W.TEC Technology Camp is a technology education and mentoring programme aimed at helping girls in JSS 2 to SSS 2 in secondary school (ages 11 – 17 years) develop an early interest in computers and other information technology. For the camp duration, the girls will participate in technology workshops. The long-term goal is to increase the numbers of Nigerian women and girls using technology productively for learning, professional and leadership activities.
Workshops at the camp included Computer Foundation, Graphic Design, Video Appreciation & Techniques, Blogging and Web Design. This year’s partners and supporters include the World Bank, Adobe Youth Foundation, Microsoft, Swift Networks, Omatek Computers and Laureates College.
