Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) Nigeria Announces its 8th Girls Technology Camp for August 2015
The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre – W.TEC is now accepting applications for its 8th Girls Technology Camp, which is scheduled to take place from August 2 – 15 in Lagos, Nigeria.
The W.TEC Girls Technology Camp is a technology education and mentoring programme designed to inspire girls to become more confident in creating digital content and developing technology. For the camp duration, the girls will participate in technology workshops, career talk sessions, team-building exercises and excursions.
The technology camp which has been tagged”Geeky Divas – Grooming ICTpreneurs” is open to secondary school students who are not younger than 13 and not older than 17 years of age. This residential, educational camp will take place from August 2 – 15, 2015 and is targeted at girls in secondary schools who are comfortable using the computer and who would like to take their interest in computers & technology to the next level. It is a two-week program with practical technology workshops including: Animation Programming using Raspberry Pi, Building Mobile Applications to design Games, Build Computers, Graphics Designing – CorelDraw and 3D-Designing, and Shooting a Film. The girls will also learn how to create ideas and develop them into money-making ventures; there will be seasoned financial gurus to take them through Software Development Life Cycle and Financial Literature sessions in the simplest form.
The 2015 W.TEC Girls technology Camp is supported through partnerships with Union Bank of Nigeria PLC, Mainone Cable, General Electric, Adobe Youth Foundation and Laureates College – Lagos.
W.TEC is a Nigerian non-governmental organization working to encourage Nigerian girls and women to use information and communication technology (ICT) to empower themselves socially and economically. This is done through technology literacy training, technology-based projects, mentoring, work placement and research. W.TEC works in partnership with local and international NGOs, educational and research organizations.
